Cheesy or is it cheesee?

I am not sure what the experience is in other Cheesecake Factories around the US, but I can tell you that it is very unlikely that I am ever setting foot on the one in SF. Last night we were at Macy’s SF and there is a big CCF on the last floor. As usual you have to wait about one hour or more to get a table. This time was no exception. This time though, I guess we really were out of patience so I guess we noticed much more about our surroundings and what was going on.

  • Most of the people are tourists, not a good sign when in SF there are so many good restaurants, and tourist spots are not known for the food, at least not in SF
  • The rest are really young people. I guess the price is right for a burger which you can eat for at least three days
  • Host, hostess, and servers don’t really care if you stay or you go, they don’t need you there as there are about 1000 people waiting anyways
  • Music is terrible… unless you are a fan of easy listening stuff, the type they put in the dentist office
  • Food is largely overrated and large in general… I mean the quesadilla I had (as an entree, even though it is an appetizer) had like 3lbs of cheese, that is my cheese intake of a week, if not a month… I guess it is a quesadilla after all, but any Mexican restaurant can prepare about 20 with that amount of cheese…

Anyways… I am just pissed off that it took forever, that Sebastian got so tired that we couldn’t eat well, and that by the time we got the table, we ordered two appetizers (that was the whole dinner) and when we got it, we couldn’t it because it was terrible… we spent 30 minutes at the table, and 1:30 waiting… go figure!

The cheesecake, which of course we ordered to go, was as usual, excellent… :)

  1. I always thought cheese and cake don’t go well together. If there is any dessert I truly detest, it’s chessecake. I have only been to one CCF and I didn’t really enjoy the food either.

  2. Sacrilege! Cheescake is one of my favorite desserts, though I don’t indulge in too much of it anymore. The first time my friends and I tried making cheescake everyone except me thought it was an unmitigated disaster (this was back in India were I think one of the problems was that we didn’t have the right kind of cheese - we used cheddar cheese for all I know). I single handedly finished the cheescake, much to the amazement of the others. That’s when I learnt the cardinal virtue of a cheescake. Just like pizza and sex, even when it was bad it was GOOD :).

As for restaurants, it was impossible for us to go to any place with a greater than 10 minute wait time with my older daughter. I found that it completely stressed me out and I gave up on restaurants entirely (except takeout). Thankfully she’s become much better now and with a younger one who’s been manageable from the start, we’ve started venturing out a little more.

  3. Great write-up, I’m regular visitor of one’s blog, maintain up the excellent operate, and It is going to be a regular visitor for a long time.
