when to push the damn button…
So no… this is not about when to push the damn cold war button. This is about pushing the camera button at the right time. It’d be enough for the mere mortals when the photo is actually in-focus, we get points extra when its centered and we were fortunate enough to capture eveybody full-bodied in the actual frame. Then there is the next level when other than by luck we can capture the essence of a moment, and believe me luck isn’t that generous. However there is that extra level when the photos can change the way we look at certain events and have the power of making us peer with the subject in question.
enjoy…

James Nachtwey, 1994 winner, feels that people need photography to help them understand what’s going on in the world, and believes that pictures can have a great influence on shaping public opinion …
While we can not be at the all places at the same time, the photos do help us see what’s going on in the world.
Just wonder whether there is a photo contest which shows happy moments.
Wow! One feels humbled by these images.
My thoughts exactly Eugenia. Just about every winning pic is a moment of tragedy or sadness. Do we eulogize negative human emotions far stronger over the happier ones? Powerful photos nevertheless.
indeed… if you look at the 2006 gallery there are incredible non-overwhelmingly-sad pictures. Especially the one taken under the water.
I did touch upon this in an earlier post:

I’m not sure exactly why but this site is loading very slow for me. Is anyone else having this problem or is it a issue on my end? I’ll check back later and see if the problem still exists.
